In 2012, I deployed to Western Afghanistan as a US Navy Corpsman.
I wanted to go to war. I needed to go to war.
All of my buddies had been, and I felt like less of a leader, less of a man because I hadn’t.
I wanted the experience. I wanted the camaraderie I saw between those who had been — I wanted that.
